Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has joined an elite group of players after becoming the second-fastest footballer to reach 50 goals in the Turkish Süper Lig, underlining his growing influence at Galatasaray.

Osimhen reached the milestone when he opened the scoring in Galatasaray’s 4-0 away victory over Konyaspor as the champions maintained their two-point lead at the top of the table.

The former Napoli forward needed just 60 appearances to score his first 50 league goals, eight matches more than Galatasaray legend Metin Oktay, who reached the landmark in 52 games across the 1958/59 and 1959/60 campaigns.

Known as the ‘Crownless King’, Oktay remains one of the most celebrated figures in Galatasaray’s history and is the club’s fourth-highest all-time goalscorer, with 128 goals.

Osimhen has now scored 69 goals in 84 appearances for Galatasaray and is already among the top 10 scorers in the club’s history. He has also helped the Istanbul side win two league titles since joining from Napoli.

Mbaye Diagne reached 50 Süper Lig goals in 62 appearances across spells at four clubs, while Brazilian midfielder Alex and Greek forward Theofanis Gekas also feature among the fastest players to achieve the milestone.

Osimhen’s landmark goal also strengthened his position in the race for this season’s Golden Boot. He is joint-top of the scoring chart with compatriot Gift Orban, with both Nigerians having scored nine league goals.

Orban enjoyed an impressive weekend of his own, scoring once and providing an assist as Amedspor recorded a 5-1 victory over Eyüpspor on Sunday.

The former Nigerian international has registered four assists this season, one more than Osimhen’s three.

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah is also in contention, having scored eight goals for Trabzonspor, just one behind the Nigerian pair.
