The Association of Medical and Dental Officers (AMDO), Oyo State chapter, has suspended its industrial action and resumed duty.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the doctors, who had been on strike since Oct. 26, returned to their duty posts on Monday.
NAN reports that doctors at Ring Road State Hospital, Government Chest Hospital, Jericho Specialist Hospital and Oni Memorial Children Hospital, among others, have resumed work.
The resumption followed the suspension of the one-week industrial action embarked upon by the association.
NAN recalls that the association embarked on the strike over demands, including an improved welfare package for members, payment of outstanding allowances and recruitment of more medical officers, among others.
The AMDO General Secretary, Dr Abdulazeez Gbadamosi, said in a statement on Monday that the suspension followed its emergency congress held on Sunday.
He said the “Executive Council appreciated members for their strict compliance with the strike and the confidence reposed in its leadership.”
He also thanked the elders who, he said, “contributed to the mediation and partial restoration of industrial harmony.”
Gbadamosi said the “congress resolved to suspend the strike from November 2 to November 15 to allow for further negotiations.”
He directed members to resume full clinical activities from 8am on Monday.
The general secretary added that a review of progress made in the negotiations would take place in due course. (NAN)
