A former House of Representatives aspirant, Remi Odunsi, has taken the campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s reelection and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Lagos, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, to communities in the Kosofe area of the state and its environs.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, political parties and aspirants are increasingly focusing on grassroots mobilisation to build support across communities.

In Lagos, door-to-door campaigns, ward-level meetings and engagements with community leaders remain among the channels through which political parties seek to reach voters, communicate their programmes and understand local concerns ahead of the polls.

Odunsi, who contested the APC primaries for the Kosofe federal constituency and lost, said the campaign and grassroots mobilisation aimed to strengthen support for both APC candidates, including the candidate for Kosofe federal constituency, Dele Osinowo.

In a statement on Monday announcing the unveiling of the Remi Odunsi Organisation for grassroots mobilisation, Odunsi stated that losing the ticket won’t deter her from campaigning for Tinubu and APC candidates in the state.

She said that through ROO, which was launched on Saturday, the team would intensify grassroots political engagement across Kosofe Federal Constituency through a series of door-to-door campaign activities in support of APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Odunsi said the ROO team took mobilisation exercises through several communities within Kosofe, including Agboyi-Odo, Maidan, Maryland, Ojota, Ikosi-Isheri, Magodo-Isheri, and the Kosofe Arewa community, among others, after the launch to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.

Speaking on the rationale behind the exercise, Odunsi emphasised the importance of direct community engagement in building political awareness and strengthening the relationship between political leaders and the people they seek to represent.

“We are engaging in door-to-door campaigning for APC candidates, including President Bola Tinubu and Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, and others.

“Even though they both have proven track records, we are still out here mobilising and seeking our constituents’ support for the APC candidates,” she said.

According to her, the door-to-door engagement offers a valuable opportunity for meaningful conversations, allowing residents to communicate their expectations, raise concerns and discuss issues that directly affect their everyday lives.

“The engagements also provided residents with an opportunity to highlight pressing community challenges, particularly the need for improved electricity supply, inclusive governance and a more equitable distribution of democratic dividends,” the statement added.

Odunsi noted that political mobilisation must go beyond election-period activities, stressing the importance of sustained engagement, effective communication and ensuring that the needs of ordinary residents remain part of governance conversations.

The ROO convener said that stronger grassroots structures are essential to meaningful political participation and effective representation.
