The Nigeria Democratic Congress, Anambra State Chapter, has inaugurated its newly appointed Obi/Kwankwaso Presidential Campaign Council as the party intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration ceremony held at the King David Hotel in Awka, the state capital, on Wednesday, is expected to spearhead grassroots mobilisation, strengthen party structures and coordinate campaign activities across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration, the Anambra State NDC Chairman, Ikem Uzoezie, said the council is expected to coordinate and manage the day-to-day activities of the party’s campaign ahead of the election.

Uzoezie said the inauguration marks a significant milestone in the party’s strategic efforts to consolidate its presence, deepen grassroots engagement and build a formidable political structure ahead of the general elections.

He said, “This Inauguration is the commencement of an aggressive house-to-house mobilisation for a total victory for our presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, and other candidates contesting the senatorial, national and state houses of assembly elections in Anambra State and beyond.

“It is the beginning of the new Nigeria we are all working for. For the council members, I urge you all to know that the possibility of a new Nigeria will begin with us, so let us work hard in truth to actualise the dream.

“We should be proud of the party we belong to. Our leader, Mr Peter Obi, has promised us a new Nigeria. The inauguration is to prepare you all for the tasks ahead. The NDC will win 98 per cent of the votes in Anambra State. Let us ensure that all our candidates from top to bottom win the 2027 election. Your task is to deliver 100 per cent of your polling units for our party.

“Please campaign with an open mind and civility, and not by sentiment. As you are campaigning, don’t assume that other political parties are sleeping; work hard to ensure victory for the party come January 16, 2027. Let us work hard to ensure the presidential candidate wins the election.”

Uzoezie noted that the party has put necessary measures in place to shut down Anambra via home coming/mega rally ceremony for Obi later this month.

In his acceptance speech on behalf of other council members, the council’s State Coordinator, Dr Ifeamyi Ibezi, expressed excitement about working with the NDC, stressing that since he joined the party, he has found peace of mind.

Ibezi assured that the council under his coordination will ensure nothing less than 1.5 – 2 million votes for Obi in the state, noting that Kano State has promised to give Obi 1.5 million votes.

He likened Obi’s growing popularity to that of the late nationalist and former President of Nigeria, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, and the former Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Dr Michael Okpara.

He pointed out that the former Anambra State governor’s socioeconomic philosophy was resonating with Nigerians across different age groups and geographical locations.

He said, “The political appeal of Obi and Kwankwaso had transcended regional and ethnic boundaries, giving the NDC a strong electoral advantage ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.

“Anambra is a democratic state, and democrats are working together in Anambra. As a democratic state, we will deliver overwhelming support for the NDC. The party is poised to take over the state from those who described themselves as ‘progressives.’

“The NDC is determined to win elections across Anambra State, and we deliver our candidates from the presidential to the legislative and other elective positions. It is from top to bottom. We must ensure that the message of Peter Obi and other NDC candidates gets to the 5,526 polling units in the state.”

Other principal officers of the council include the Deputy State Coordinator, Egwuoba Innocent, and Campaign Secretary Paulinus Izuchukwu, among others.

The campaign council also established directorates for media and publicity, finance, logistics, women and youth mobilisation, security, grassroots mobilisation, election monitoring and vote protection, new media, protocol, policy research and documentation, among others.
