President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward pledge to each member of the Super Falcons, 15 months after Nigeria won a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.

The players have started receiving payments totalling about N140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the President’s promise announced at a presidential reception for the team at the State House in Abuja on July 28, 2025.

Tinubu had pledged $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to members of the technical crew following the Super Falcons’ dramatic 3–2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final two days earlier.

Nigeria overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat the hosts Morocco in Rabat, reclaim the continental title and extend their record as the most successful team in the history of the women’s competition. The victory also earned the team $1 million in prize money.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed the fulfilment of President Tinubu’s pledge in a statement issued on Monday and signed by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to the Commission’s Director General.

Shehu Dikko, NSC chairman, said President Tinubu had honoured his commitment to the players in full.

“The Super Falcons made Nigeria proud, and Mr President has honoured his commitment to them in full.
This means a great deal to the team and to Nigerian sports. We sincerely thank Mr President for recognising their achievement and directing that they received everything promised to them in record time,” Dikko said.

He said the payment demonstrated a commitment to recognising sporting achievements and ensuring athletes received promised rewards.

“Some of our sports heroes endured years of waiting for promises to be fulfilled. President Tinubu has shown that things can be done differently,” he added.

Dikko said the fulfilment of the pledge should encourage Nigerian athletes to continue representing the country with confidence that their efforts would be recognised.

The payment follows a similar $100,000 reward pledge by Tinubu to members of D’Tigress after Nigeria won a fifth consecutive title at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, reinforcing the country’s dominance in women’s basketball on the continent.

The Super Falcons’ 2024 WAFCON triumph secured Nigeria’s 10th continental title and reinforced their position as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.
