A husband who invited other men to rape and sexually assault his wife arranged for “more and more individuals” to visit his marital home as he resolved “to satisfy his own perversity”, a jury has been told.
The husband, who is in his 60s and from Stockport in Greater Manchester, has pleaded guilty to more than 60 offences against his wife. He cannot be named in order to protect the anonymity of his victim.
Nine men are on trial at Manchester Minshull Street crown court accused of either taking part in the abuse of the victim, or encouraging the offending online while “hiding behind the screens of their mobile telephones and computers”.
One of the “non-contact” alleged offenders, Daniel Rayner, 42, of Whitstable, Kent, repeatedly sought imagery of the abuse of the victim, the court heard. He told the husband: “Passed out ones are obviously better,” and: “Hope she’s being used tonight.”
The husband had shared imagery of other men, Graham Brougham and Sean Peers, assaulting his wife, and when Rayner asked: “So I guessing she had no idea he had stripped and fucked her,” the husband confirmed she did not.
Rayner then asked him: “What did you give her … I’ve always used GHB.”
Rayner denies conspiracy to rape, conspiracy to assault by penetration and conspiracy to administer a substance with intent.
Setting out a timeline of the allegations, the prosecutor Louise Oakley KC told the court that by the start of January 2025: “[The husband] doesn’t appear to have had any new year’s resolutions to stop his offending on his wife.”
“If anything, his resolve to satisfy his own perversity continued,” she said. “With arrangements being made for more and more individuals to attend.”
Two of the defendants, Philip Wild, 59, and Mohammed Sabir, 28, both from Stockport, had sexually abused the woman one after the other in a single night in early 2025, the court heard.
Oakley said Wild was “fully aware” that the woman was not conscious and not able to consent to any sexual activity. “He’d been there before so that was no surprise, and certainly was no deterrent the state he’d seen her in before,” she told the court.
Wild has pleaded not guilty to sexual assault, attempted rape, assault by penetration and conspiracy to rape.
Oakley told the court that Sabir also “knew before he went into the bedroom” that the victim was not conscious, and “at no point” did he attempt to communicate with her, or seek her consent.
The husband later asked him to write a review on a swingers website, the court heard, and the jury was shown the review, which read: “Really easy to set up a meet. It was my first [experience] fucking someone’s wife in front of them, so thanks for that. Hope to meet again soon.” Sabir denies rape and conspiracy to rape.
In May 2025 the husband made contact with another stranger on the site, the court heard. Jordan Wallace, 31, a building supplies employee from Wythenshawe in Manchester, said he was “pissed” and asked the husband to pick him up.
He wrote: “13 mins if [you] wanna pick me up [and] me [and] [you] will get perverted with your wife.” When the husband declined to collect him, he said he would ride his bicycle over to the address.
Wallace was “fully aware” the wife was unconscious, and “because of her state of consciousness she was not able to consent to any sexual activity”, Oakley told the court.
She said the husband “recalls that at one point Jordan Wallace ‘got rough’ with [his wife] and he had to actually push him away, saying, ‘What the fuck are you doing?’ telling him he was going to wake her up”.
Wallace later apologised but asked the husband to send the videos he had taken, which he did, the court heard. Wallace has pleaded not guilty to rape and attempted rape.
In June 2025, the husband subjected his wife “to a humiliating, degrading and sustained sexual assault” over the course of three hours, and again invited two men in succession into their home to assault her.
The second man, Alan Keelan, 42, an industrial cleaning firm worker also from Wythenshawe, had climbed on top of the unconscious woman wearing a pair of black women’s knickers and attempted to have sex with her, the court heard.
When he was unable to, he sexually assaulted her before climbing off the bed, the court heard. Keelan denies attempted rape and assault by penetration.
In July last year, the husband again posted on the swingers website, and made contact with the sheet-metal worker Richard Townsend, 38, the court heard. Townsend was aware the woman was not conscious when he proceeded to sexually assault her, assisted by her husband, the jury was told.
The woman’s leg moved, and “it was clear she was restless and stirring, so together they decided enough was enough for that night and he left”, the court heard. Townsend, of Heywood, Greater Manchester, denies assault by penetration.
Jonathan Kirk, 43, from Stockport, was described as “more cautious” than the other defendants, and first requested to meet the husband at his own house.
The husband visited Kirk at his house in August and showed him photographs of the woman passed out and being abused by him. He told Kirk he would consider drugging his wife, and Kirk, a paramedic, told him that “could be very dangerous”, the court heard.
Later, Kirk took a taxi to the husband’s house. “As a senior paramedic, he cannot have failed to notice she was not conscious. He is trained to spot that,” Oakley told the court. “The truth is, he knew and that’s how he wanted her to be.”
After having sexual intercourse with the woman, “Jonathan Kirk stood up and said, ‘fucking hell, wow’ and how great it had been before he left”, the court heard.
Kirk denies rape and conspiracy to rape.
Two other men are also on trial. Robert Stewart, 70, of Stockport, denies rape, conspiracy to rape and conspiracy to administer a substance with intent.
David Graves, 60, of Ilkeston, Derbyshire, denies “non-contact” offences of conspiracy to rape, conspiracy to assault by penetration and conspiracy to administer a substance with intent.
Peers, 38, from Stockport; Brougham, 74, from Cheshire, and another man, Keith Fotheringham, 59, from Dundee, have pleaded guilty to offences against the same woman.
Karl Lindsay, 56, from Somerset has also pleaded guilty to “non-contact” offences. All will be sentenced alongside the husband, at a later date.
The trial continues.
