Gunmen open fire inside church in Jordan, 6 killed

Six people were killed and 28 others injured after two unidentified gunmen opened fire at a church in Jordan’s Karak region during a funeral procession, Reuters reported, citing Al-Mamlaka TV.

According to a source cited by the broadcaster, the attackers got out of a vehicle and began shooting. A witness told Al-Mamlaka TV that the gunmen fired continuously for about five minutes before fleeing the scene.

A witness told state-run Al-Mamlaka television that one of the attackers was armed with an AK-47 Kalashnikov rifle.

The attack took place at a Greek Orthodox church in Karak, located about 180 kilometres (110 miles) south of the Jordanian capital, Amman.

Karak is home to a minority Christian community.
