Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has expressed confidence that Rivers State voters will support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing what he described as the President’s fulfilment of promises to the state.
Wike made the assertion during a media chat, where he defended the Rainbow Coalition Movement, criticised opposition figures and addressed the lingering leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The minister dismissed criticism of Tinubu by former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, questioning his moral standing to criticise the President and accusing him of having corruption allegations to answer.
He also faulted Amaechi for bringing his wife and mother into political discussions, describing the approach as cheap politics.
On the Rainbow Coalition, Wike said he was puzzled by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma’s opposition to the movement, insisting that it was established more than two years ago and would continue beyond the 2027 presidential election as a platform for promoting good governance.
Addressing the PDP leadership crisis, the minister maintained that the party had no faction, saying legal action was being pursued to secure justice for members whose names were allegedly excluded from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s list.
He also dismissed comments by former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, about him and the Rainbow Coalition, attributing the remarks to anger.
On the dispute between the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the University of Abuja over land allocation, Wike faulted the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for threatening industrial action, arguing that the disagreement did not justify a strike.
He said the process of revoking what he described as excess land allocated to the university, covering more than 11 hectares, was initiated by his predecessor, Muhammad Musa Bello, and that he had only continued the process.
