International Energy Insurance Plc (IEI) has paid more than N970 million in insurance claims in 2026, as its Minimum Capital Requirement (MCR) rose above N28 billion, strengthening its financial capacity to meet policyholder obligations.
The insurer in a statement said the claims payments reflected its commitment to honouring insurance contracts and providing financial support to customers when insured risks occur.
The development comes as Nigeria’s insurance industry faces increasing pressure to demonstrate stronger financial capacity, improve claims settlement and build public confidence in insurance services.
IEI said its capital position provides a stronger foundation for meeting obligations, supporting business growth and serving its corporate, public-sector and individual customers.
“International Energy Insurance Plc (IEI Plc) has paid over N970 million in insurance claims in 2026, highlighting its continued commitment to supporting policyholders and delivering on its obligations.
“IEI Plc’s performance also comes against the backdrop of a strengthened financial position, with its Minimum Capital Requirement (MCR) now exceeding N28 billion. This provides a stronger financial foundation for the company to meet its obligations, support its growing business and serve its diverse customer base,” the statement read
The company added that it prioritises timely claims settlement, subject to policyholders submitting complete documentation and the completion of necessary verification processes.
It said responsible underwriting and effective claims management remained central to maintaining confidence among policyholders and strengthening its position in the Nigerian insurance market.
The insurer’s claims payments and capital position also come amid ongoing changes in the industry following the introduction of the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025, which provides a new regulatory framework for insurance businesses.
IEI, which has operated for more than five decades, said it was building on its history while strengthening its capacity to provide insurance solutions across different customer segments.
Established in 1969 and headquartered in Lagos, IEI is listed on the Nigerian Exchange and operates as a subsidiary of Norrenberger Financial Group.
The company provides general insurance products, with specialised underwriting in property and casualty risks, among other areas. It is regulated by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and distributes its products exclusively through licensed insurance brokers.
