President Bola Tinubu has said his prayers in Saudi Arabia were significant to him and Nigeria, as he sought peace, unity and harmony for the country.
Tinubu spoke in an interview with the newsmen after performing the lesser Hajj, known as Umrah, in the holy city of Makkah on Friday. The interview was shared online by NTA.
Asked about the significance of the spiritual exercise, particularly as he was in Saudi Arabia again after visiting before the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu said it gave him a sense of spiritual fulfilment.
“I feel good, I feel fulfilled, gives me a sense of spiritual thing for me, and the country, and the children,” he said.
He added that the exercise was significant because of his belief in the love of Nigerians, his commitment to his responsibilities and his faith in Allah.
“I believe the love of the people, the commitment to the job, and the visible commitment to our Allah’s wish, Inshallah, and there’s no other God but Allah,” the President said.
Tinubu also prayed for Nigerians to live in peace, harmony and happiness, with faith in God.
In a statement issued later on Friday, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President performed Umrah early in the morning at the Grand Mosque, Masjid al-Haram.
According to the statement, Tinubu offered prayers of gratitude to Allah and sought divine guidance and protection for Nigeria.
He also prayed for sustainable peace, national unity, stability and relief from insecurity and other challenges facing the country.
The President expressed hope that Nigeria would make progress in economic prosperity and social development, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
Tinubu had travelled to Saudi Arabia for the spiritual exercise, with the Presidency saying his prayers centred on the country’s peace and well-being.
