Three vicious pit bulls maul man in Broome leaving him 'ripped up' on street in early-morning attack

A man has been left with serious injuries after being mauled by three pit bulls on a Broome street in the early hours of the morning.

The man, in his 40s, was taken to hospital by a resident of Streeter Avenue following the horror attack at about 3am on October 21.

He was later flown to Perth for treatment.

Resident Stewart Turner described the man's condition to the ABC: 'When I looked at him, he was ripped up.'

'I couldn't go there and use my hands or rocks,' he said.

Mr Turner used a vehicle to keep the dogs at bay before he took the injured man to hospital.

His partner, Miranda Shovellor, said she became aware of the attack after hearing the man calling for help outside their home.

'We would have probably found a body down the road the next morning,' she said.

Ms Shovellor added that the attack was 'traumatising' and she is 'still shaken' after the incident.

She said the dogs had surrounded her uncle’s vehicle near his Streeter Avenue home earlier that night, prompting him to try to alert police and local rangers.

A WA Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail that officers responded to a report of the attack at about 3am.

'Upon arrival, officers located three unaccompanied dogs who had been seen walking around the area,' she said.

'One man sustained serious injuries and was conveyed to hospital for medical treatment.'

The dogs were captured by rangers at about 7am, while the Shire of Broome continues to investigate the incident.

According to the ABC, a Department of Health spokesperson said the man left hospital on Tuesday evening and the dogs’ owners had consented to the animals being euthanased.

Daily Mail has approached the Shire of Broome for comment.
