Mother of four congressional candidate Heidi Kuhn reveals she nearly died in 'traumatic' car crash days before election... as she reveals heavily bruised face

Tennessee congressional candidate Heidi Kuhn has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home after a frightening car crash left her injured and shaken.

Sharing an update on her condition in a Monday afternoon Facebook post, she said she remains stunned that the wreck did not result in more serious injuries.

'Thank you all for your kind comments and well wishes. We are doing better, but we're still hurting and shaken,' Kuhn, 57, said in the post.

'After seeing pictures of the car, it's hard to believe our injuries weren't worse. We are still processing what happened and feel incredibly grateful to be here. Your love and support mean so much to us,' she added in the statement.

Her campaign had confirmed on Saturday that Kuhn, a mother of four, had been discharged from the hospital and was continuing her recovery at home.

'Heidi has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home,' the Heidi Kuhn for Congress campaign said in an update over the weekend.

The campaign also said Kuhn had been overwhelmed by the messages of support she received following the crash.

'She wants everyone to know how grateful she is for the thoughts, prayers, and kind messages she has received,' the campaign's statement said.

'She is unable to respond to them for a little while, but she has read and felt every one.'

'Thank you for your continued support and for respecting the family's privacy as Heidi heals,' the campaign added.

Kuhn is running in Tennessee's 8th congressional district against Republican David Kustoff. The seat is rated as safely Republican by the Cook Political Report and is an R+10 seat.

The Democrat formerly served as the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk for eight years.

Kuhn is not the only Democratic congressional hopeful to have been involved in a crash this week.

Former Congresswoman Mary Peltola, who is seeking the US Senate seat in Alaska this year, was hit over the weekend as well.

The congresswoman and her loved ones were traveling to the Alaska Federation of Natives' annual banquet on Saturday night when another driver struck their car.

Her campaign manager, Cheryl Bruce, said in the statement that Peltola was taking time to recover per the advice of medical professionals.

She sustained minor injuries, which led to several of her planned campaign stops being rescheduled.

The unexpected accident is also forcing her to delay the start of her Alaska Always tour, her campaign revealed.

Peltola, who lost both her husband and her mother back-to-back, has faced criticism from Republicans over being seemingly absent from her congressional duties.

Her team has accused the GOP, including President Donald Trump and Sullivan, of 'shamefully twisting her family tragedy to score political points.'
