Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has reflected on his impressive start at Turkish 1. Lig side Bursaspor, identifying the goal that matters most to him and explaining why he left transfer negotiations to his representatives over the summer.
The 30-year-old joined the Turkish second-division club as a free agent after negotiations over a move to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic collapsed.
Since arriving in Turkey, Iheanacho has rediscovered his scoring touch, scoring in 12 consecutive matches and registering 16 goals and three assists in 12 league appearances.
The Super Eagles forward also made history by scoring in 10 consecutive league matches, breaking the record jointly held by Galatasaray legends Metin Oktay and Saffet Sancaklı.
Iheanacho said the goal that secured the record remains his most memorable in a Bursaspor shirt because of its historical significance.
“There are a lot of fantastic goals, but, to be fair, the one that broke the record was outstanding for me,” he told Bursaspor’s official YouTube channel.
“It was not really a sweet goal, but it was outstanding because it was the record-breaking goal.”
However, the former Manchester City forward singled out another strike as the most beautiful goal he has scored for the club, praising teammate Ivan Saranic’s contribution.
“If you are talking about the highlight of a goal and how good and fantastic it was, I think it was the goal I scored from Ivan Saranic’s lovely assist,” he said.
“That assist was incredible, as were my turn and the finish. That goal is my best because of the pass, the run I made, the turn and the finish. That goal was outstanding.
“But if you want to put them in alphabetical order, the record-breaking goal would come first, and the highlight of the goals would be that one.”
On his move to Bursaspor, Iheanacho said he preferred to focus on his football rather than get involved in transfer discussions, leaving the negotiations to his agents and club officials.
“To be fair, I don’t talk about transfers. I really try to concentrate on my football. The transfer talks were done with the agents and directors,” he told Bursaspor TV.
