Real Madrid are set to add 22-time tennis Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal to their Board of Directors, pending approval at the upcoming General Assembly of Delegated Members following a board agreement on Wednesday.

Already an honorary member of the club, Nadal’s transition into an executive role represents a significant addition of elite sporting pedigree to the European champions’ boardroom.

In a formal statement, Real Madrid highlighted not only Nadal’s legendary credentials, which include 92 tour titles, two Olympic golds, and five Davis Cup trophies, but also his character.

“It is a source of immense pride for Real Madrid and for all our supporters that a figure of his sporting and personal stature is to join our Board of Directors,” the statement read, noting that his humility, respect, and charitable work perfectly embody the club’s core values.

Nadal expressed delight at the opportunity to work alongside long-serving club president Florentino Pérez.

“I would like to thank President Florentino Perez and the Board for inviting me to join the Board of Directors,” Nadal shared on social media.

“I have accepted this invitation with great enthusiasm, keen to learn and to contribute as much as I can.”

Having officially retired from tennis in November 2024, the former world number one has frequently been touted by fans and analysts as a potential future president of the club.

However, Nadal has consistently played down those rumors, with 79-year-old Pérez recently securing another four-year term at the helm.
