Vile man who beat up homeless man for fun with his friend won't have to go to prison

A Nebraska teen has avoided prison after he attacked a homeless man and shared video of the assault.

The Omaha Police Department arrested Orion Garman and his friend Joshua Williams, both 19, in May after learning of the video circulating on social media.

Garman entered an abandoned building where a homeless man, later identified as Sean Johnson, lived.

Garman shared a video showing him beating the innocent man to Instagram.

According to Omaha Police, the attacker was accompanied by friends including Williams and they used pipes and boards with nails to attack Johnson.

A man was also heard using racist slurs and screaming.

'Watch the f**k out,' the man warned Johnson while threatening him with a green pipe.

They hit Johnson so hard that he broke his hand.

Orion Garman stole Sean Johnson's phone and robbed him, according to Julia Dueling, an Omaha resident who reported the incident to the police

Johnson screamed: 'That hurts, stop. I quit.'

Julia Dueling, an Omaha resident, said she reported the incident to the police with all the evidence she had.

She also said that the men stole Johnson's phone.

'This morning I was notified of a group of 18- to 20-year-olds beating a homeless man with pipes, boards with nails, and they were even going to go as far as stabbing him. This man does nothing to anybody,' she wrote in an online post.

'He lives in the old abandoned Salvation Army in downtown Omaha. He's very kind & loves to talk. If these are your f****g kids, come get them. All morning I've been on the phone with the Omaha Police Department, hospitals and more. I have submitted all evidence needed. If this is your son & his friends, do better. Y'all are sick.'

Douglas County District Court sentenced Garman on Tuesday, WOWT reported. His bond was initially set at $20,000.

Garman pleaded no contest to 2nd-degree assault and was sentenced to three years of probation, saving him from spending his time in jail.

His companion Williams had his charge reduced last week to assault causing bodily injury, the outlet reported. He is now awaiting trial.

Charges of robbery, use of a weapon to commit a felony and false imprisonment were dismissed for Garman.

Tamara Dwyer, Omaha's homeless services coordinator, told WOWT that the video was heartbreaking.

'Initially it was very hard to watch and I wasn't able to get through it.' Dwyer said. 'The video was not only heartbreaking, but just shocking.'

She said that it is important that we treat such people as human to end homelessness.

'It's fine to ask them if they're okay if you're worried about them. Ask them their name. We have a lot of people who do reach out to the mayor's hotline out of concern for people, which is great because we want to be concerned rather than villainizing folks that are on the streets,' she told the outlet.
