Leeds United are considering a January move for Nigeria international Zaidu Sanusi, with the Porto left-back’s contract situation potentially opening the door to a cut-price deal.

The Premier League club believe an agreement could be straightforward if Porto do not offer the defender a new contract, according to Football Insider, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Whites have tracked the 29-year-old for some time, having considered signing him in each of the last two transfer windows.

With Sanusi’s contract due to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season, Leeds are reportedly exploring the possibility of securing his services in January rather than waiting until he becomes a free agent next summer.

The club are looking to strengthen their options at left-back and provide competition for Gabriel Gudmundsson, who joined Leeds in 2025 and has impressed since his arrival.

Sanusi started 11 league matches for Porto last season but has already made five starts in the 2026/27 campaign.

The Nigerian is now in his seventh season with the Portuguese giants, having joined the club in 2020. He has also accumulated 29 UEFA Champions League appearances and is featuring in the competition again this season.

His experience at the highest level could appeal to Leeds as they look to strengthen their squad while maintaining a cautious approach to spending following their return to the Premier League in 2025.

However, the prospect of a January transfer could depend on whether Porto offer Sanusi a new contract in the coming months, with Leeds potentially able to negotiate a reduced fee if the defender’s deal remains unresolved.
