President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Publisher of BusinessDay newspaper, Frank Aigbogun, ahead of his 70th birthday.

Aigbogun will turn 70 on Sunday, November 1.

Aigbogun, a veteran journalist and former Editor of Vanguard newspaper, studied Mass Communication at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, before embarking on a journalism career spanning more than four decades.

He began his career at The Guardian in 1983 and subsequently worked at The Democrat Weekly before joining Vanguard, where he rose to become Editor. He also served as the Lagos correspondent for the international news agency, Associated Press.

He is the Deputy President of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria, having been elected to the position in November 2025 after serving as the association’s Vice President.

In a congratulatory message personally signed by him on Saturday, Tinubu described Aigbogun as a distinguished journalist and media entrepreneur whose contributions to business journalism and economic reporting had shaped public discourse in Nigeria.

The President commended his commitment to responsible journalism and his role in providing a platform for analysis of economic policies, investment opportunities and developments affecting Nigeria’s business environment.

He noted that Aigbogun’s work had contributed to strengthening credible business reporting as an instrument of national development.

Tinubu also urged experienced media professionals like Aigbogun to remain active contributors to Nigeria’s institutional growth as the country undergoes economic reforms.

The President expressed his belief that experienced journalists and media entrepreneurs would remain valuable to the country’s institutional development and business journalism during the ongoing economic reforms.

Aigbogun co-founded BusinessDay in 2001, establishing what would become a daily business and financial newspaper. The publication has since developed into a platform for economic analysis, investment reporting and policy commentary.

Established in July 2001 as a weekly, BusinessDay became a daily publication two months later and has grown into one of Nigeria’s leading specialist business and financial newspapers, with a reputation for economic analysis, corporate reporting and financial intelligence.

Over the years, the newspaper has won several industry honours, including the Diageo Africa Business Newspaper of the Year Award twice and the Nigeria Media Merit Award’s Business Publication of the Year prize for three consecutive years up to 2014. It also received the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s award for the Most Impactful Newspaper on Business and Commerce in 2014.

The newspaper maintains a longstanding content syndication partnership with the Financial Times and has expanded its operations into digital subscriptions, research, business intelligence and corporate events.

Aigbogun’s contributions have also extended beyond newspaper publishing. He served on the Federal Government’s Vision 2010 Committee and was a director of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, which honoured him on October 28, 2026, for 19 years of contributions to economic policy dialogue and private-sector development.

He received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Diamond Awards for Media Excellence in recognition of his contributions to Nigerian journalism. He is also a former President of the Lagos Business School Alumni Association and currently chairs the Board of Trustees of the Forum of Alumni Association of the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu.

The President wished him good health, renewed strength and greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
