A newborn infant has died following a home birth in south-west Sydney, four years after the baby's mother lost another child.
Emergency services were notified at about 6pm on Tuesday after the baby was born at a home in Hinchinbrook and subsequently died a short time later, police said.
Officers have commenced an investigation and a report will also be prepared for the coroner.
Police sources told The Daily Telegraph the mother had lost another baby in 2022. There is no suggestion the two deaths are connected.
Sources said the circumstances surrounding the 2022 death are also being reviewed.
No charges have been laid and there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing in relation to either child's death.
