Woman looking forward to her wedding distraught after fiance attacked her with pair of scissors, cops say

An Arizona bride-to-be was violently attacked by her fiance who stabbed her in the neck and face with scissors a month before their wedding.

Emily Byles moved to Glendale, Arizona to live with her fiance Zachary Velasquez a few months before they were supposed to get married.

A week into living together, Velasquez stabbed her in the neck with a pair of scissors and told her 'it's God's plan for 'her' to die,' according to court documents obtained by The Daily Mail.

On October 5, Byles' 11-year-old daughter called 911 to report screaming coming from her parents' bedroom, according to court documents.

Officers forced their way into the room after they heard the victim yelling on the other side of the door.

Inside, police found Byles lying down on her back covered in blood and holding a pair of scissors.

Velasquez was standing nearby shirtless and with his hands covered in blood, according to police.

Byles told police that Velasquez was on meth and was trying to kill her.

Velasquez struck Byles' veterbral artery which caused air to enter her neck, police alleged

Allegedly, he told her 'he was a prophet and tried to kill her in order to save her,' court filings stated.

Velasquez allegedly told Byles to lie down on the floor and go to sleep, and that he would kill her if she got up, the documents noted.

He told her it was 'God's plan for her to die,' according to a later interview Byles had with police.

Byles had a deep laceration on her neck that hit her vertebral artery, as well as significant bruising on her face.

She was taken to the hospital where staff advised her that she was in critical condition and would have to have surgery, police said.

'I was stabbed multiple times, my artery was cut, and I was severely beaten,' Byles wrote on a GoFundMe she started to cover her medical expenses.

'I was not supposed to survive, but by God’s grace I did,' she wrote, 'Since that night, our home has been left unlivable, with too much blood to even clean up.'

Byles has been staying with a friend while recovering from surgery, and her daughters were taken in by her sister while she heals from her injuries, she wrote.

'My oldest daughter showed more courage that night than most people ever should have to,' Byles wrote of her daughter's decision to call 911 on the night of the attack.

Velasquez was previously arrested for armed robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated robbery, court documents revealed.

He is currently in jail and facing multiple charges including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, intimidation and recklessly handling/displaying a weapon.
