The Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate for Jigawa South-West, Suleiman Abba, who is a former Inspector-General of Police, has pledged to address the challenges confronting the district and other parts of the state if elected in 2027.

The pledge comes amid intensifying political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with aspirants across political parties stepping up grassroots mobilisation and consultations in Jigawa State.

Abba made the pledge on Monday while commencing his campaign and consultations in Gwaram and Birnin Kudu Local Government Areas of the state.

Speaking at the PDP local government secretariat in Gwaram, where party members and other supporters gathered, Abba expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to commence his campaign.

He pledged to work towards finding lasting solutions to the challenges confronting the district, which he described as underserved in infrastructure, youth empowerment and security.

According to him, his experience in public service and efforts to protect the country’s democracy would help him deliver meaningful development to the senatorial district.

He promised to visit all 11 wards in Gwaram Local Government Area to solicit support, urging both indigenes and non-indigenes to back his ambition.

The senatorial candidate also described himself as the most experienced among the 10 contestants vying for the Jigawa South-West seat.

He said, “I have served this country at the highest level of security management. I understand the problems of our people, and I will use my experience to bring development that has eluded us.”

After the gathering at the PDP secretariat, Abba and his supporters embarked on a road walk across Gwaram to canvass for votes.

Earlier, the PDP House of Representatives candidate for Gwaram, Isah Idris Gwaram, urged the electorate to support the party, expressing confidence in its ability to fulfil its promises.

He said the PDP remained the only party with a clear blueprint to rescue the district from underdevelopment.

Also speaking, a former party chairman, Isah Duniya Bahutu, urged residents of the area to rally behind Abba, describing him as a tested and trusted leader.

Bahutu said the party was united and ready to reclaim its mandate in Jigawa South-West.

As part of efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, Abba also met with non-indigenes residing in the area and assured them of inclusive representation.

The campaign team toured communities across Gwaram and Birnin Kudu, where the party also received defectors from other political parties.
