The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency has resolved 528 complaints against Ikeja Electric Distribution Company and facilitated credit adjustments and refunds totalling ₦26.2m between January and September 2026.
The agency disclosed this in a Thursday statement, noting that it received 556 complaints against the electricity distribution company during the nine-month period, with 28 cases still ongoing.
“According to the agency’s records, 556 complaints were received against Ikeja Electric during the nine months, out of which 528 have been resolved, while 28 remain ongoing, representing a resolution rate of approximately 95 per cent,” the statement said.
The agency said it had facilitated credit adjustments and refunds totalling ₦26,243,758.75 for affected consumers.
It described the intervention as underscoring “the importance of regulatory intervention, consumer advocacy and mediation in resolving disputes and securing appropriate redress.”
The General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting “fairness, accountability, transparency and improved service delivery in the electricity distribution sector.”
Speaking on the intervention, the Head of LASCOPA’s Complaints and Mediation Department, Yusuf Musiliu, explained that the agency received and analysed complaints submitted through online and offline channels.
He said the stakeholders’ parley provided a platform for Ikeja Electric officials and affected consumers to “discuss grievances, reach mutually acceptable agreements and resolve disputes amicably.”
Musiliu expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached through the engagement and urged aggrieved consumers to follow established procedures for seeking redress rather than resorting to self-help.
He advised consumers to submit supporting documents, including electricity bills, payment receipts and other evidence, when filing complaints to facilitate timely investigations and resolution.
The agency further disclosed that its stakeholders’ parley with Ikeja Electric holds on the last Thursday of every month.
The monthly engagement provides “a regular platform for consumers to present unresolved complaints and engage directly with the electricity distribution company.”
LASCOPA encouraged consumers to promptly report “billing disputes, estimated billing, overbilling, electricity supply issues and other unfair practices.”
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers and promoting accountability among service providers in line with its mandate and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Law 2025, as amended.
Solebo advised residents to contact the agency through its toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, available on weekdays, or via email at [email protected] to report complaints and seek assistance.
