Speeding underage drunk driver mowed down two sorority sisters, both 19, then sped off without stopping to check on them, lawsuit alleges

An underage frat brother mowed down two sorority sisters while drunk behind the wheel of a Tesla before speeding off without stopping, leaving the girls mangled in the road, according to a lawsuit.

Ishan Pandhare, 20, allegedly plowed into Lilianne Burke and Zoey Archibald, two 19-year-old Cal Poly students, on January 8, while the young women were walking with friends to celebrate a birthday.

Pandhare was accused of attending multiple alcohol-fueled events before hitting the sorority sisters at approximately 60 mph in a 25-mph zone, according to the filing.

The suit claims he never used the brakes or made any attempt to slow down before or after the accident, leaving the women with injuries so severe they required surgery and continued treatment.

The sisters were 'left like run over garbage in the roadway,' and had to be immediately transported to the hospital, according to the lawsuit.

Pandhare is one of several defendants named in the complaint, which was filed on July 10 and seeks monetary damages for their serious physical injuries and emotional distress.

He also faces charges of DUI causing bodily injury, reckless driving causing injury and hit-and-run causing injury or death in a separate case in which he has pleaded not guilty.

On the day of the collision, Pandhare attended a party hosted by a 21-year-old, as well as another event hosted by Kappa Sigma fraternity members, according to court documents.

He allegedly was given alcohol by the 21-year-old at her event, and accepted drinks from another 21-year-old, and a 22-year-old at a different gathering.

The 22-year-old also owned the gray 2021 Tesla Model 3 and was accused of letting Pandhare get behind the wheel despite knowing or having reason to know he was intoxicated and unfit to drive, according to the suit.

Archibald and Burke claimed that encouraging alcohol consumption is a form of hazing, accusing Kappa Sigma of violating California's hazing regulations.

'Two Cal Poly students were run over and left bleeding in the road by an underage driver under the influence who cowardly fled the scene,' Theo Emison, Archibald's attorney, told The San Luis Obispo Tribune.

'We will find all persons who are responsible in any way for this tragedy and hold every one of them accountable for this despicable conduct.'

The women are demanding a trial by jury, with the first hearing scheduled for November 16, according to Mustang News.

'There are so many layers of failure here that had the law been followed by any one of the people who furnished the alcohol, provided the vehicle, encouraged excessive consumption and drove the vehicle, this life-changing collision would not have happened,' Christopher Dolan, Burke's attorney, told The Tribune.

'The lawsuit should be seen as a wake-up call to the alcohol culture in colleges and universities: If you break the law and cause harm, you will be identified, pursued and held accountable.'

Pandhare's preliminary hearing in his criminal case was scheduled for October 19.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Pandhare's attorney, Kappa Sigma fraternity, Cal Poly and attorneys representing Burke and Archibald for comment.
