INDIA bloc postpones 'public impeachment' of CEC Gyanesh Kumar due to rains | India News

The proceedings are part of the INDIA bloc’s campaign against alleged ‘vote chori’

NEW DELHI: The INDIA bloc on Friday postponed its proposed ‘public impeachment’ proceedings against chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar to Saturday due to rain. The programme was scheduled to take place at 10, Rajaji Marg, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in New Delhi.

The opposition bloc had planned the event as a public expression of its demand for Kumar’s removal, accusing the Election Commission of failing to address its concerns over alleged ‘vote chori’. The proceedings were intended to bring together leaders and representatives of INDIA bloc parties to discuss the charges against the CEC and the opposition’s demand for action.

Addressing the media, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, "By consensus, we have decided to postpone today's program (public impeachment programme against CEC) to tomorrow at the same time because of rain. We felt that it would be uncomfortable for seniors to sit in the rain, and we will hold the exact same program tomorrow."

According to the sources, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will preside over the proceedings and the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha would move a motion, followed by speeches from representatives of various parties.
