Abdullahi Sule, the Governor of Nasarawa State has called for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, saying the state’s improved revenue and infrastructure development reflect the benefits of the Federal Government’s economic reforms.

Governor Sule made the call on Monday at the opening ceremony of the maiden Nasarawa State Secretariat Maintenance Week, 2026, in Lafia.

The governor said Nasarawa State had benefited from increased revenue following Tinubu’s reforms, which enabled his administration to complete the new state secretariat and its internal roads in 2025, two years after construction began.

He said the state had initially planned to construct the complex in phases between 2023 and 2027 because of limited resources but later expanded the scope to cover the entire facility as revenue improved.

“When the revenues kept coming, of course, we kept awarding the contracts. We awarded the contracts, and we finished the contracts. The entire buildings were completed, the roads were completed, everything was completed in 2025, two years later,” he said.

The governor said supporting Tinubu’s re-election should also involve supporting APC candidates to ensure that the president has party members working with him to sustain the gains of the reforms.

“The only way we can say thank you to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is by re-electing him massively in Nasarawa State and re-electing also his party massively in Nasarawa State to tell him thank you,” governor Sule said.

He added that supporting the president without supporting other APC candidates would undermine the objective of sustaining the benefits of the reforms.

“You need the people who will work with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in order for us to continue to gain the benefits of what has happened,” he said.

The governor also cited projects being executed by local government councils as evidence of improved financial capacity, noting that councils were now building secretariats and other facilities from their savings, despite previous difficulties in meeting payment of staff salary and promotion obligations.

Turning to the purpose of the event, the governor urged civil servants to protect public infrastructure, stressing that maintenance must extend beyond cleaning and gardening to regular checks on electricity, air-conditioning, water supply and toilet facilities.

He commended Musa Barau, the Special Assistant on Secretariat Maintenance for initiating the programme and proposed that one week in June should be dedicated annually to maintaining the complex.

Earlier, Abigail Iwaya, the Head of the Civil Service thanked the governor for providing a modern working environment and pledged that civil servants would preserve the facility for future generations.

Labaran Magaji, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State represented by Muhammad Iliyasu Ide, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs and Special Services, urged public servants to embrace cleanliness, discipline and the proper use of government facilities.

Barau, the host said the initiative was designed to promote preventive and planned maintenance to reduce the cost of repairs and prolong the lifespan of public infrastructure.

Kenneth Egbejong, the project manager of Shelter Development Limited, the company that constructed the complex, and the Managing Director of Oxford Facilities and Logistics Management Limited who oversees its facility management, both stressed the importance of regular maintenance in preserving the government’s investment.
