A California teacher alleges he is more than $1 million in debt after his life was ruined by a former student who accused him of molesting her.
Jeremy Taylor, 50, was fired by the Oakland School for the Arts (OSA) in February 2022 after an ex-student, referred to as Jane Doe, accused him of sexually abusing her, according to a civil lawsuit he filed in the Superior Court of California.
Doe alleged that Taylor engaged in a sexual relationship with her in 2004 while she was a 14-year-old freshman at OSA, the filings said. She also accused him of grooming several other female students.
Taylor has denied her allegations. Two other students he is alleged to have groomed also denied Doe's accusations, his civil lawsuit said.
The alleged assault of Doe was reported to Oakland police in September 2021 by Pennsylvania resident Jenny Miller, the wife of Doe's pastor, according to investigative records obtained by The Free Press.
OSA, a celeb-factory high school attended by actress Zendaya and US Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu, subsequently employed the Oppenheimer Investigations Group to look into Doe's allegations, the lawsuit said.
Oppenheimer found Doe's allegations to be credible despite the alleged victim being unable to recall details of how they had sex or the chronology of their purported sexual relationship, his lawsuit said.
Oppenheimer highlighted how Miller reporting the assault to authorities strengthened Doe's credibility, even though text messages allegedly showed she had begged Miller not to file the report.
The firm also cited email exchanges between Doe and Taylor that occurred outside of school hours, but were not sexual in nature, as evidence to support her claims, the report said.

Despite alleged inconsistencies in Doe's allegations, Oppenheimer investigator Alice Donahue - who has since left the firm - concluded that Taylor assaulted Doe and groomed other students, his lawsuit alleged. He denies the allegations.
After Oppenheimer completed its probe, Taylor was investigated by police. He was arrested and charged with committing a lewd act upon a child in July 2022, court records showed.
The charge against him was dropped in March 2025 after the Alameda County district attorney's office determined they were 'unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.'
But Taylor says the damage had already been done, telling the newspaper how his reputation is tarnished and he has not worked in four years.
Last year, Taylor filed civil lawsuits against both OSA and Oppenheimer, alleging the entities failed to investigate Doe's claims thoroughly and impartially.
He further accused the defendants of ignoring inconsistencies in her accusations and overlooking her alleged documented struggles with mental health, according to the complaints obtained by the Daily Mail.
OSA denied the allegations in Taylor's lawsuit in a court filing responding to his complaint.
Oppenheimer is seeking dismissal of the complaint, arguing that because it was contracted by OSA, Taylor cannot bring a breach-of-contract claim against the firm, according to court filings.
Both lawsuits are still working through the Alameda County court system, records show.
Doe, who had been a student in his math class, added Taylor on Facebook in 2014, nearly a decade after she left OSA, his lawsuit alleged. Although she messaged him first, Doe told investigators that Taylor tracked her down and initiated contact
Doe claimed that when she told Taylor she was a 'married mommy' in a message sent in 2021 that he responded with 'bummer'. According to screenshots included in Taylor's lawsuit, no such reply exists
Taylor told the newspaper that he remains unemployed, has spent $1.1 million in a bid to clear his name and is relying on financial support from his family.

Although she messaged him first, Doe told investigators that Taylor tracked her down, messaged her and wrote it was a 'bummer' that she was married, the filing said.
According to screenshots included in Taylor's lawsuit, no such message exists.
The pair exchanged occasional messages over the years, with Doe even reaching out to Taylor in 2018 to wish him a happy birthday, the lawsuit said.
Doe allegedly started struggling with thoughts of suicide in 2020, and turned to Miller as a confidant and prayer companion, according to Oppenheimer's investigative report.
Miller, a licensed therapist, told The Free Press how she took Doe to the emergency room in summer 2021. Miller claimed Doe had stopped eating and was having increased thoughts of suicide.
Doe also overdosed on 'psych meds' in the hospital bathroom and had to have her stomach pumped, Miller said.
Doe alleged that Taylor engaged in a sexual relationship with her in 2004 while she was a freshmen at the Oakland School for the Arts. He denies her allegations
The alleged victim first told Miller that Taylor had assaulted her in September 2021, according to the Oppenheimer investigative report obtained by the Free Press.
Miller said she was 'more apt' to believe Doe's allegations because she was 'not medically stable at the time' and thought she 'needed to get this off her chest before she died.'
The therapist, who is a mandatory reporter, then alerted Oakland police about Doe's accusations. According to Taylor's lawsuit, Doe texted Miller 'no,' 'stop,' 'you cant do this' and 'hes mine this is mine' after Miller filed a complaint with authorities.
Text messages cited in Taylor's civil complaint revealed that Doe previously admitted to Miller that she had a crush on him while she was in high school.
The Oppenheimer report also referenced a complaint made to OSA by Doe's adoptive mother in 2005, Taylor's lawsuit said.
Doe's mother alleged that Taylor and her daughter were having late night phone calls. Taylor denies having any calls with Doe.
He claims the woman's complaint came after Doe, then his student, reported that she was suffering from an eating disorder and claimed her adoptive mother was using drugs in front of her, the lawsuit said.
Taylor and a school administrator reported Doe's adoptive parents to Child Protective Services (CPS), he said in the lawsuit. He suspects Doe's mother filed the complaint to OSA in retaliation for the CPS report, his civil complaint said.
The educator's lawsuit further alleges that Doe was suffering from documented mental health issues while enrolled at OSA.

Despite the alleged inconsistencies in Doe's story, Oppenheimer investigator Alice Donahue, who has since left the firm, concluded that Taylor assaulted Doe and groomed other students, his lawsuit alleged.
The Oppenheimer report stated Taylor's denials were not credible because he responded 'with technical arguments relating to the evidence and the standard of proof.'
It also said he 'did not admit or take responsibility for any wrongdoing, which reduced his credibility.'
Taylor's lawsuit further accused OSA of failing to turn over crucial evidence to Oppenheimer which he suggests may have proven his innocence.
OSA, Oppenheimer, Donahue and lawyers for Taylor and Doe did not respond to the Daily Mail's requests for comment.
