will be one of New Zealand's key players in the fifth and final T20I against India on Sunday (November 1). The match, scheduled at Seddon Park in Hamilton, will give the right-handed batter a chance to break the record for the most runs in a bilateral T20I series.

Phillips has scored 276 runs in the ongoing series. His tally includes the 107 he made off 49 balls in the fourth T20I on Friday (October 30). He needs another 56 runs in the final match to break the all-time record.

The record is currently held by England's Phil Salt, who scored 331 runs in five T20Is against the West Indies in December 2023. Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan is second on the list, having scored 316 runs in six T20Is against England in 2022.

Only two players have scored 300 or more runs in a bilateral T20I series. Phillips will have a chance to join that list on Sunday.

He also needs just 15 runs to break Mark Chapman's record for the most runs by a New Zealand batter in a bilateral T20I series. Chapman scored 290 runs in five matches against Pakistan in 2024.

Phillips already holds the record for the most runs in a T20I series against India. If he scores a half-century in the final match, he will also become only the third player to register four or more 50-plus scores in a bilateral T20I series.

Pakistan's Rizwan and Japan's Sabaorish Ravichandran are the only two players to have achieved that feat so far.
