…discusses computer-based exams possibility

The Gambia and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have strengthened their commitment to tackling examination malpractice, with discussions also exploring the possibility of introducing computer-based examinations as part of efforts to safeguard the integrity of public examinations.

Habibatou Drammeh, the minister of basic and secondary education, held a high-level meeting with Amos Dangut, the 14th registrar of the West African Examinations Council, to discuss examination integrity and the future of education in The Gambia.

The meeting, attended by members of the WAEC council and Louis Mendy, the permanent secretary, focused on strengthening the credibility of public examinations and accelerating reforms in teaching, learning, and assessment.

Central to the discussions was the adoption of modern technology in examination administration, including the introduction of Computer-Based Examinations (CBE).

The initiative is expected to minimise examination malpractice, enhance transparency, and improve the speed and efficiency of examination delivery and marking.

Drammeh emphasised the need to move beyond traditional methods and integrate technology into classroom teaching and learning to raise student performance and expand opportunities for success.
