A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Jumoke Ogunkeyede, has demanded a total overhaul of the party’s structure in the state to reposition it for better performance.
Ogunkeyede, who sought the removal of the state party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, made the demands in an open letter addressed to the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, a copy of which was obtained in Osogbo on Thursday.
The party chieftain also berated members of the Osun APC Elders Caucus for failing to live up to expectations and save the party from its current woes, saying the APC lost the August 16 governorship election due to lack of purposeful leadership.
He said many loyal party members would join an impending revolution within the Osun APC unless necessary steps were taken to save the party, noting that the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, also failed to recognise loyal party members.
“APC is too important a party to allow it to become a sheep without a shepherd. Where do we go from here? What is going on? Why should people like me be made to look like we do not know what we are doing? What is the relevance of the AGBA OSUN?
“What is their relevance? What have they accomplished? What was their impact in the last election other than the fact that they made money and we lost with ignominy? This has nothing to do with Governor Adeleke. He danced himself to victory, and our President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is happy with him.
“Our party members were and are largely unattended to. A pack of sheep without focus and organised shepherding. Where do we go from here? Some of us have never flinched as Progressives; we will not start now. There is a need to reset the party from bottom up,” the letter read.
He noted that the arrangement between Governor Ademola Adeleke and the national APC leadership to collaborate for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the state was not properly communicated to party members across all levels.
He further declared that all stakeholders must work for Tinubu’s victory in the state in the 2027 general elections, but insisted on a complete reorganisation of the Osun APC structure to make it formidable again.
“Minister Oyetola treats real and committed party stalwarts as people of no value, no importance, no consequence. Asiwaju’s re-election is at hand; the majority of party members are not involved. The arrangements and agreements with Governor Adeleke were not disseminated to the rank and file, but Governor Ademola Adeleke is said to be on our side.
“Asiwaju must win not only Osun, but the nation, Nigeria, for us to survive. Any house divided against itself shall not stand. The burden of leadership for Osun APC is too big for Taju Lawal. He is a good young man.
“The task is too heavy for him. His shoe size is size eight while Osun wears size twelve. You cannot plant potatoes to harvest yam. He must be redeployed. Sentiments apart, if APC must survive in Osun State, we must rebuild from ground zero,” Ogunkeyede said.
