An Oyo State-based pastor, Joel Olasunkanmi, has narrated how his involvement in ritual practices in pursuit of wealth preceded a car accident that eventually led to the amputation of his leg.

Olasunkanmi shared his experience in an interview with BBC Yoruba, saying he became involved with a ritualist while seeking what he described as worldly pleasures and material gains.

He said the involvement lasted about five years, during which the ritualist instructed him to find a young woman he loved and perform a ritual involving her.

“Thirty years ago, I took some steps that made God angry. It was while I was searching for vain and worldly things that I became disabled. I had a car accident on May 26, 2001,” he said.

Recounting what the ritualist allegedly asked him to do, the pastor said he was instructed to have sexual relations with a woman he loved, use a white handkerchief to wipe her private parts and take it to him.

“The ritualist I sought told me to look for a young lady that I so much loved. I searched for her, had sex with her and used a white handkerchief to wipe her genitals. I took it to the man,” he recounted.

Olasunkanmi said he eventually became wealthy through the practice, although he claimed he did not understand how the money came to him.

He added that the ritualist imposed restrictions on how he could use the wealth.

“I did become rich. I did not know how it happened. But I did become rich. But I was told I could not buy a car or house from it,” he said.

He further claimed that the car involved in the accident belonged indirectly to him because he had provided the money used by another person to purchase it.

“At the end of the day, the car that hit me was indirectly mine because I was the one who bought it for him. At the end of the day, my leg was amputated,” he said.

Reflecting on the experience, Olasunkanmi advised young Nigerians against seeking instant wealth, urging them to be patient in their pursuits.

“I implore the youths of today to be patient in everything they do,” he advised.
