Footage has been captured of the moment a man was held on the ground outside a busy metro train station after he'd allegedly tried to snatch a woman's handbag.
The brazen alleged theft attempt was made during peak hour at one of Sydney's busiest metro stations.
Vision showed a NSW Police officer speaking with three young men while the alleged thief remained handcuffed on the ground.
Members of the public had held the man until officers arrived at the newly opened Barangaroo Metro Station, adjacent to the harbour in the CBD, about 5.50pm on Monday.
The group were just outside the station's escalator and elevator entrances which lead down to the underground platforms. About 7,000 commuters use the station daily.
NSW Police confirmed that officers were called to the scene following reports of an attempted robbery.
'Police were told a man grabbed a woman's handbag before members of the public restrained him,' it said in a statement.
'Police arrested the 32-year-old man before he was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged with steal from the person and breach of bail.'
