Popular family entertainment channel, Africa Magic Family is bidding viewers goodbye after 12 years, ending a television era filled with familiar faces, household dramas and stories that kept Nigerian families glued to their screen.
This was disclosed on Africa Magic’s official Instagram account on Thursday, where the channel announced its closure and introduced Africa Magic+ as its replacement.
“One chapter closes, but the story is far from over. Africa Magic Family is officially closed, there’s so much more coming your way,” the post stated.
The channel urged viewers to anticipate its new offering, promising “more stories, more drama, more variety” on Africa Magic+, which commenced broadcasting on November 5 at 6am West African Time.
For viewers, Africa Magic Family was more than just another television channel, having provided a platform for locally produced stories and familiar faces through popular Nigerian productions.
Some of its popular programmes included family dramas and comedy series such as The Johnsons and Hustle, which entertained audiences over the years.
However, the introduction of Africa Magic+ signals a change in the channel’s programming direction, with MultiChoice promising a broader mix of African stories, local productions, children’s content and other entertainment.
Ishaku Audu, a huge fan of the show, said, “The introduction of Africa Magic+ marks a new chapter, and we the viewers will be hoping for better content, quality entertainment and value for their subscriptions.”
The development has also sparked conversations among viewers online, particularly around what the replacement means for the familiar programmes and entertainment experience they have come to associate with Africa Magic Family.
The change comes amid MultiChoice’s wider restructuring of its DStv channel line-up and subscription packages, which took effect on November 5, 2026
