The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appealed the Federal High Court judgment nullifying the leadership of the David Mark-led faction and invalidating the process that produced its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2027 general election.
Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, said on Friday that the party had filed a notice of appeal and applied for a stay of execution pending the determination of the appeal.
The appeal followed Thursday’s judgment by Peter Lifu, a Federal High Court judge in Abuja, which nullified the Mark-led caretaker committee and its decisions.
The ruling followed a suit filed by Nafiu Bala, a former ADC national deputy chairman, who challenged the emergence of Mark’s leadership.
Shaibu said the party had formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging it to suspend further action on the matter until the appellate court rules.
“The ADC is exercising its lawful right to appeal. The judgment is now under challenge before a higher court, and the legal process must be allowed to run its course,” he said.

He warned INEC against taking steps that could pre-empt the outcome of the appeal, insisting that the party’s campaigns would continue.
“Our campaigns continue without interruption. There is no stopping the affordability train or our mission to make life better for Nigerians,” Shaibu added.
