The United States Embassy in Abuja has alerted Americans to Nigeria’s reactivation of Ebola screening measures for international travellers, warning that passengers entering the country could face mandatory quarantine or self-isolation for at least 21 days.
In a health alert issued on October 27, 2026, the embassy said the Nigerian government had reactivated Ebola-related screening at all international ports of entry, including airports, land borders and seaports.
According to the alert, travellers will be screened by communicable disease control officers upon arrival and could be subjected to mandatory quarantine or self-isolation for a minimum of 21 days.
The embassy said the measures followed confirmation of one Ebola case in Nigeria by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) as of October 26, 2026.
It added that the Nigerian government had reported the case under the International Health Regulations (2005).
The patient has since been repatriated to their home country, the embassy said.
The health alert identified international ports of entry across Nigeria as the locations where the screening measures would apply.
The alert also advised Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution.
