Met Police 'misplaced letter containing child sex allegations against Thomas Markle - and had to ask Meghan if she kept a copy'

Met Police 'misplaced letter containing child sex allegations against Thomas Markle - and had to ask Meghan if she kept a copy'

The Metropolitan Police reportedly misplaced a letter containing child sex allegations against Thomas Markle - and resorted to asking the Duchess of Sussex if she held a copy.

Mr Markle's ex-wife Roslyn Loveless is understood to have sent the letter to the force in January 2019, before its contents were passed on to the Sussexes.

Authorities in the Philippines are currently trawling through a trove of child sex abuse images which allegedly belong to Meghan Markle's 82-year-old father, who is currently staying in Florida after having his leg amputated. He denies the allegations.

Ms Loveless, who died two years ago and divorced Mr Markle in 1975, is reported to have written in her letter: 'I questioned Thomas Sr. He denied the accusation but stated that he went to the Philippines and Thailand because 12-year-olds are legal there.'

She is also said to have claimed that Mr Markle posed a threat to Prince Harry, Meghan and the duchess's mother, according to the Telegraph.

Ms Loveless allegedly added that it was 'useful for security and threat assessments in the UK' for the Met Police to be aware of her ex-husband's allegedly 'unsavory background'.

But it has been claimed tonight that the force reportedly both misplaced the letter and failed to act on a tip-off it received years earlier.

The force eventually asked the duchess if she held a copy, according to The Times, and she handed it over at their request.

Mr Markle's ex-wife Roslyn Loveless is understood to have sent a letter to the Met Police in 2019 accusing him of child sex abuse

The misplacing of the letter is the latest in a series of apparent failings by the Met in relation to allegations made against Mr Markle, including a failure to pass the information to the FBI.

It is understood that the Met is assessing whether to refer itself to a police watchdog over its handling of the letter.

Jim Gamble, a former head of the National Crime Agency's child exploitation unit, yesterday accused Scotland Yard of potentially allowing child abuse to continue for years over its handling of the situation.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today programme, he said: 'If it turns out through the investigation ongoing in the Philippines and with the FBI that an individual is ultimately held to account for those offences, then there's seven years during which children will have potentially continued to suffer abuse.'

He questioned why the Met Police assessed the claims as being sufficiently credible to pass to the Duchess of Sussex herself but not to other law enforcement.

'I would have expected them to prioritise an assessment with regard to the safeguarding and child protection issues that seem to have been included in [the letter],' he said.

'If you get information that comes to you about someone from a foreign jurisdiction who represents a threat to children, there's a well-worn path and generally you'd expect a UK police force to share that information.

'I would have expected the Metropolitan Police to have gone to the FBI to say, 'Look, this isn't proven, it's an allegation, you might want to look at it'. Because in America, they may have more information that could corroborate it.

'It also should have gone to the National Crime Agency. They have an international network that connects with police services, not just in the likes of America, but in the Philippines, in Thailand, and in Mexico.'

Mr Gamble added that an external investigation into the force is 'absolutely necessary'.

Mr Markle denies all of the allegations against him. Authorities in the Philippines are currently investigating

'There's a serious question to be asked about the process here,' he said. 'It's not just about administration, it's about children having an extended exposure to an individual, if it's proven, who represented a risk.'

It's claimed the letter received by the Met in 2019 was written by Ms Loveless, mother to the Duchess of Sussex's half-siblings Samantha and Thomas.

Samantha, 61, has said that if her mother sent the letter, it was out of 'hatred and bitterness', accusing her of being an alcoholic and 'not credible'. Mr Markle and Ms Loveless divorced in 1975, four years before he met Meghan's mother Doria Ragland.

Meghan and her father have been estranged since at least 2018 when she married Prince Harry. Their relationship broke down after he admitted staging paparazzi photos of himself prior to the wedding.

The Duchess wrote to him last December after his leg was amputated in the Philippines, allegedly telling him he posed a risk to children and would never be allowed to meet his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.

On Friday, police in the Philippines revealed they were investigating Mr Markle over claims he had 'hundreds, if not thousands' of child sexual abuse images, including an image of himself allegedly having sex with an underage girl.

The Philippines' interior minister Jonvic Remulla said Mr Markle appeared to be 'a possible sex offender of the grossest kind'.

Mr Markle has denied any wrongdoing, admitting he paid for sex in the Philippines but insisting it was only with adult prostitutes.

The Daily Mail contacted the Metropolitan Police and Meghan Markle's representatives for comment.

Questions are continuing to mount over Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson's secret split after the high-profile pair appeared to continue flaunting their relationship – months after supposedly calling it a day.

A bombshell TMZ report on Friday night revealed the age-gap romance came to an end 'late last year,' with the pair somehow managing to keep their break-up a secret for almost a year.

Late on Friday night, a separate report from USA Today claimed that UNC staffers had been 'caught off-guard' by news of Belichick and Hudson's split, with two anonymous employees admitting they were 'not aware' of the relationship breaking down.

Hudson has still been a mainstay at North Carolina football games this season, appearing by Belichick's side through thick and thin, both in Chapel Hill and on the road – even as recently as this month.

Reports claim they are still 'close friends' and 'remain committed to their business partnerships,' with Hudson listed as a director for multiple companies. That is despite the outlet reporting that she has since moved on and has dated multiple men this year.

So why, then, is there a wealth of loved-up photos taken in 2026, given their supposed romantic split back in the latter stages of 2025?

As recently as this month, the cheerleader has been a constant presence at Belichick's side

The 'former' couple held hands at the Kentucky Derby in May, after their split back in 2025

At high-profile sporting events and in private moments, the Daily Mail has dug out a series of snaps that show all might not be exactly as it seems between the legendary football coach, 74, and the ex-girlfriend 49 years his junior.

Perhaps the most confusing display of public affection came back in May at the Kentucky Derby, supposedly up to six months after they had called time on their romance.

After flying Hudson out on a private jet to the historic horse racing event at Churchill Downs, a suited-and-booted Belichick held her by the hand as they walked on the course.

Doubling down, Hudson later posted two photos to her social media, alongside the caption: 'Not the first time we've trudged through the mud together,' complete with a pink love heart.

In the photos, the pair are beaming, with Belichick's shirt and tie closely matching Hudson's dress.

Another social media post from a month earlier raises yet more eyebrows, after Belichick took time out from his busy football schedule to support Hudson's own sporting endeavor.

Playing the role of doting boyfriend, Belichick cheered Hudson on at her US Worlds Trials, in which she and her 'Cheer Extreme Code Black' team were crowned champion.

In the aftermath, Hudson posted a selfie of the pair, labeling Belichick 'Bill the WAG' while he wore a t-shirt carrying the name of her cheer squad. The term WAG – short for 'wife and girlfriend' – seemingly hinted that their romance was going strong.

Shortly before that April adventure, Belichick and Hudson had spent time in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, attending a basketball game one night on campus.

While nothing was posted on social media by either of them, photographers captured the pair with their arms intertwined as they sat in the bleachers to watch the action.

This, it should be noted, occurred two months into 2026 and long after they had apparently ended their high-profile relationship.

In recent months, Hudson's Instagram account has been dormant, with no new posts in 25 weeks and the most recent photo dump being the loved-up Kentucky Derby appearance.

Despite no images from the source, Hudson has still been closely involved in Belichick's life, appearing in photos taken at at least three of UNC's games just this month.

A report late on Friday claimed UNC staffers had no idea the pair had split before TMZ's reveal

Fans have taken to calling Hudson the 'First Lady of UNC Football' due to her regular presence

Last time out, the Tar Heels lost in overtime to Syracuse, and Hudson was seen in multiple fan photos taking selfies on the sideline in a stylish pink suit.

In one post, she was labeled the 'First Lady of UNC Football' as she grinned for snaps with young supporters.

Seven days earlier, she traveled to Durham, North Carolina with the team for the rivalry game against Duke, which ended with a huge win for Belichick and his players.

At the end of the game, Hudson appeared to cozy up to Belichick as they laughed and walked down the tunnel together.

On October 3, meanwhile, she was again on the sideline again as UNC suffered a loss to No 5 ranked Notre Dame, also at Chapel Hill.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the pair for comment.
