Abubakar Kabir Bichi, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, has begun mobilising Kano State APC lawmakers and political candidates for the 2027 general elections, with a renewed push to secure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Bichi, who represents Bichi Federal Constituency, convened a strategic meeting with APC members of the Kano State House of Assembly and 40 candidates on Sunday evening, November 1, 2026, to strengthen the party’s political machinery and coordinate its campaign activities ahead of the elections.

The meeting, held at his office in Bichi Local Government Area, was attended by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, who led the state lawmakers and other political stakeholders.

The gathering signals an early effort by the Kano APC leadership and its political stakeholders to consolidate the party’s structures across the state, align campaign activities and build a common strategy for the presidential, governorship and legislative elections.

According to Bichi, discussions centered on political coordination, collaboration among party members and strategies for ensuring electoral victories for Tinubu, Yusuf and other APC candidates across the state.

He said the meeting was convened to deliberate on critical political issues and strengthen cooperation among stakeholders as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.

Bichi described unity among party members as essential to achieving the APC’s electoral objectives, expressing appreciation to Falgore and the other participants for responding to his invitation.

He said the lawmakers and candidates had an important role to play in mobilising support for the party and ensuring that its campaign activities were properly coordinated.

“Unity is our strength, and together we will deliver victory, Insha Allah,” Bichi said in a statement after the meeting.

The mobilisation comes against the backdrop of significant political realignments in Kano following Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC in January 2026, a development that has altered the state’s political landscape and intensified preparations for the next electoral contest.

Yusuf’s defection brought the Kano State Government into the APC fold, alongside a significant number of political office holders and lawmakers, strengthening the ruling party’s prospects but also raising the stakes in the battle for political control of the state.

The development has particularly increased the importance of coordination between the executive arm, federal lawmakers, state legislators and party candidates in building a formidable political structure ahead of 2027.

Kano remains one of Nigeria’s most politically consequential states because of its large voting population and influence on northern electoral outcomes. Consequently, securing the support of its political blocs and grassroots structures is expected to be central to the APC’s strategy for both the presidential and governorship elections.

For the APC, the challenge will be translating the political realignments and growing party structures into actual electoral support, particularly as opposition forces seek to reorganise and challenge the ruling party in the state.

Bichi’s meeting with the lawmakers and 40 candidates therefore represents part of the emerging efforts to establish an early campaign framework, harmonise interests among party stakeholders and position the APC for a coordinated contest across Kano’s 44 local government areas.
