The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of deliberately undermining preparations for the 2027 general elections, alleging that its handling of irregularities in the voters’ register could be setting the stage for a possible postponement of the polls.

In a statement signed by Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, on Friday, the party questioned INEC’s failure to investigate and prosecute officials allegedly responsible for introducing AI-generated photographs and fictitious entries into the voters’ register.

The party also accused the commission of violating Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2026 by failing to publish the preliminary register within the statutory timeframe for public scrutiny.

“Why has nobody been arrested? Why have these individuals not been handed over for prosecution? What exactly is INEC waiting for?” the ADC queried.

It warned that the commission’s alleged disregard for electoral laws raised concerns about its readiness to enforce other safeguards, including the use of BVAS and serialised ballot papers on election day.

“At what point should we stop seeing these repeated failures by INEC as sheer incompetence and start to view them as deliberate acts of sabotage? ”the opposition party asked.

The ADC demanded an independent forensic audit of the voters’ register, investigation of implicated officials and a public explanation for the alleged breach of the Electoral Act.
