The TY Buratai Humanity Care Foundation has called for greater religious tolerance and protection of fundamental rights, saying peaceful coexistence is essential to national stability and an environment that supports economic activities and investment in Nigeria.

The foundation made the call while congratulating Professor Ishaq Akintola, Executive Director of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), on his conferment of the Sultan Special Recognition Award on November 2, 2026.

In a statement issued in Kaduna on Wednesday and signed by Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani, chairman of the foundation, the organisation described the award as recognition of Akintola’s academic contributions, advocacy and commitment to justice, equity and human dignity.

The foundation said religious freedom and mutual respect were important to building a stable society, urging government institutions, religious organisations and other stakeholders to protect the rights of citizens irrespective of their religious affiliations.

It also commended Akintola for dedicating the award to Muslims facing religious persecution in Nigeria, describing the gesture as an expression of solidarity with vulnerable communities.

The foundation’s Grand Patron, Amb. Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (rtd.), CFR, former Chief of Army Staff, particularly praised the gesture, saying it reflected empathy and concern for the welfare of others.

The statement said, “This recognition is a fitting tribute to a respected academic and committed advocate whose work has consistently reflected a concern for justice, religious freedom and the welfare of the vulnerable.”

It, however, emphasised that its opposition to religious persecution was not limited to any particular faith, condemning discrimination and persecution against both Muslims and non-Muslims across the country.

“Freedom of religion and belief is a fundamental right of all citizens, regardless of faith,” the foundation stated.

It reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian service, peace, mutual respect and religious tolerance, urging Nigerians to work towards a society where everyone could practise their religion without fear or discrimination.

The foundation also prayed for continued guidance and strength for Akintola and others working to advance justice and human welfare.

The statement was signed by Danfulani, who holds the traditional titles of Sadaukin Garkuwan Keffi/Betara Biu.
